Tourette’s Treatment in Surrey Therapies

Train Your Brain To Change The Pain

What is Tourette’s?

Tourette’s (or Tourette syndrome) is a neurological (“brain”) condition where people to make involuntary movements and sounds, known as tics.

Tics are sudden, repetitive actions that a person cannot easily control.

Tourette’s tics can be motor (movement-related) tics, such as blinking a lot, head jerking or shoulder shrugging.

Tourette’s tics can also be cocal (sound-related) tics, such as throat clearing, sniffing or making noises or words

While Tourette’s is often associated with people shouting inappropriate words, this only happens in a small number of cases, and is called coprolalia.

Help For Tourette’s Treatment and Support

Tourette’s is often triggered by specific situations or triggers.

We use advanced techniques to help retrain the brain, to help reduce the connection between the trigger and the symptom.

It can often be quick and easy to help retain the brain.

Tourette’s Treatment Therapy Sessions

What happens during our Tourette’s therapy sessions?

First, we’ll have a relaxed conversation about your condition, about how it feels for you, when the pain happens, and when it first started.

Then, if there was a preceding trauma, stressor or difficult life event, we may use some simple techniques to help reduce the emotional component of that event.

Next, we introduce some techniques to help retrain the deeper part of your brain, to help change the messages in your brain, retraining the neurology to respond in a different way.

You will be fully conscious at all times and aware of what we’re doing. We don’t use or offer medication or surgery.

Many people are surprised at how quick and easy it can be, to retrain the brain.

Tourette’s Treatment Research

While medical research and treatment options are very limited, there is one research paper that we find particularly interesting.

In 2010, Klein Lazarus gave 33 children and adolescents (aged 6 to 19) with Tourette syndrome a training video that taught self-hypnosis techniques.

Amazingly, 79% of the patients reported satisfactory tic control. 46% of those improved after two sessions. 96% improved after three sessions.

These responses were provided, on average, six weeks after the treatment.

Unfortunately, following such amazing results, the researchers have not progressed this amazing prospect.

We still use the ideas from that research to help our clients.
